“2006 Free
National Medical Mission (North and South)
in Nigeria”
The medical mission in 2006, was very unique
because we had different types of medical
specialties working together to achieve a
common goal, which was to help indigent
Nigerians.
Our Patron, Archbishop Desmond Tutu,
recorded a special video recording for us
inviting medical volunteers to come to
Nigeria and participate in our National
program. This video was aired on CNN for two
months and it prompted many international
and national medical personnel to volunteer
for the medical teams.
The Southern mission was hosted by the Kwara
State Government and during the program,
plastic surgeons, general surgeons, OB/GYN
and ophthalmologists came together and
within the duration of two weeks, we were
able to transform the lives of 110 deformed
people.
We performed surgeries such as VVF (Vesico
Vaginal Fistula) repairs, removal of tumors,
cataract extractions, cleft lip and cleft
palate repairs; correction of burns and
contractures, hernia repairs, removal of
fibroids and ovarian cysts, rebuilding of
severe facial deformities, etc.
In addition to rending free operations, the
beneficiaries which came from all over the
federation were given donated clothing and
non-perishable foods such as rice, sugar,
milk, etc.

"BEARS

State, Nigeria "
In March 2004,
BEARS Foundation organized and performed
plastic reconstructive surgery for the
victims of the contaminated kerosene
explosions that occurred in Edo State in
2001. BEARS Foundation invited highly
trained and experienced plastic surgeons and
operating nurses from Beverly Hills,
California to Edo State to perform surgeries
for 36 severely deformed victims of the
explosions.
Some of the
deformities corrected on the 36 patients
during the duration of the surgeries were:
Axilla contractures, hand, elbow, chin and
neck contractures, severe contractures of
both legs, Ecthopions, massive keloids,
severe foot contractures.
The ages of the
beneficiaries of the BEARS Foundation 2004
program were men, women and children ranging
from the ages of 3 years to 68 years.
The success of
our work in Edo State was widely publicized
not only in the Nigerian press, but also on
the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)
website and other national and international

"Bringing Hope to Nigerian Children
Suffering From Birth Defects, Through
Plastic Surgery"
Our maiden charity mission in 2003 put the
focus on children born withcertain
congenital deformities, Cleft Lip, Cleft
Palate and Syndactyly (Webbed fingers).
In a society where many people are not aware
that such deformities are correctable, it
was very challanging to educate the public
about the causes of the deformities and earn
the trust of the parents in order to treat
their children.
We succeeded in creating a lot of awareness
about the plight of the parents and children
and we were also able to give the children a
new lease on life.
20 under privileged children benefited from
this program and they were between the ages
of 3 months to 15 years.
